&lt;p&gt;That might be because the default works with the used range of a sheet - if you have a blank sheet, it will select to the first column, or if you are selecting cells to the right of a used range, it will select to the left. It depends where the cursor is and where the used range is.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;If the Ctrl key is pushed, you can select until the extents of the sheet no matter where the cursor is. In this respect, it might be more useful than using the Ctrl and arrow key combination depending on what you want to do. I will add this second part to the Help files, I must have forgotten with the recent upgrade :-)&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;However, you might want to look at the code for the &quot;Select To Far Right Column&quot; button, when I push the button it selects to the left.&lt;/p&gt;
