New navigation on www.jkp-ads.com

Hi all,

At the risk of being overwhelmed by comments…

I thought it was time to get rid of the -slow loading- buttons that my site uses for navigation. Especially when a page has many sub-pages one has to load a lot of buttons.

So I changed the buttons to normal hyperlinks and thought, hey, why you’re at it, why not add some navigation at the top too?

Tell me what you think everyone. Can I improve (did I improve it)?

O yes, before I forget: Here’s the address:

It looks good Jan Karel. You can still make those look somewhat like buttons, like I did for the links across the top. I just set the background and borders for each of those elements. I like the text-based buttons because they resize appropriately and you can still use the “find text as you type” option in Firefox to select them.

However, I think your site has a nice clean look to it, so you don’t really need that. It might be interesting to see what it looks like, though.

I’m trying to figure out how to actually “post” something. Can you help me out?

    JK -

I like the new interface better than the one with the buttons. Don’t even bother simulating buttons. I’m used to hyperlinks being just text anyway, whereas buttons usually denote some more important functionality.

    Hi Jan Karel,

    Looks nice and clean.
One problem though, I’m using Firefox and the horizontal textual menus do not wrap like they do when viewed in IE. Only really a problem when the list is in double figures.

The default filterset I have for Firefox’s Adblock extension (popular ad filter and filterset) blocks your site.

I like the new, cleaner look to your site. Easy to navigate. I’ll second Jon’s suggestion to not simulate a button look.

JK: your site looks very nice without the buttons.

OK guys enough praise for one day :-).

How about some suggestions for further improvement?

Strange, any idea what makes it block it? I have no adds on the site.

  10. Andy Pope:

Maybe the adblock is reacting to the ADS in the site address.

  11. jkpieterse:

Ouch. That would be a bad thing indeed.

Hey, JK - it doesn’t seem to do anything. I’m clearly missing something, but after I see the userform, there’s nothing else to look at. What am I missing?

Very nice. I like it much better than the buttons. :)

I think the ‘Up’ link is a little confusing at first. It’s hard to tell that it will take you up one level in the sites heirarchy. Maybe something to make it stand out or signify it’s purpose?

    Bob,

    Userform? :-)

Did you force a refresh of the page?
