&lt;p&gt;nntp is otherwise known as newsgroups.  Just like http is the protocol for web pages, nntp is the protocol for news.  You access nntp through a newsreader, like Outlook Express.  You connect to a news server, like news.microsoft.com.&lt;/p&gt;
