I’m Turning Japanese
Kon ni chiwa
At this year’s MVP Summit, I met a guy named Colo. Colo is Japanese and like many foreign visitors to the US, he apologizes for not speaking better English. I speak no Japanese. Zero. Comparing his English to my Japenese results in a #DIV/0 (Cut me some slack, it IS an Excel blog.)
The other day, Colo and I were exchanging pleasantries by email, and he mentioned that he looked forward to next year’s summit and promissed that he would speak better English. I, in turn, promised that I would speak better Japanese by then. I also happened to mention that I needed a blog to supply me with a new Japanese word every day. That way, I’ll have learned 300 or so words the next time I see him.
Ask and you shall receive: Japanese 365 Days is now live thanks to Colo. I’ve already added it to my Bloglines, and I shall read it everyday.
Debra Dalgleish:
Hey Dick,
Here are some important Japanese words that I’ve learned — Kirin, Sapporo, Asahi, Suntory, Yebisu.
Sayonara!

And if you add a comment you really feel intelligent because you quickly find out that you can read japanese!

Debra: Oh, stop the presses, Debra likes beer, eh!
Wendy: I tried to comment but it didn’t go through. I gives me a red error message, which of course I can’t read. I just assumed the textboxes would be in the same order as mine, but I’m doing something wrong.

Well, it said “done” in my status bar and brought me to a blank page… but lo and behold the comment was there when I went back. I have a feeling that my interest will wane though… no motivation to learn Japanese for me.
